How to use your HRA | Project:Living™ Health Fund Café

Your top Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) questions answered.*

*HRA is available to hourly employees only.

An account* linked to your medical plan that is used to pay for the out-of-pocket costs you are responsible for paying. The amount is generally determined as each medical claim is processed by your health plan – UnitedHealthcare or Cigna. As the claims are processed, your health plan will check your HRA balance and use any available funds to pay for your claims or amount you are responsible for paying.

*HRA is available to hourly employees only.

Where is the money?

The HRA funds are linked to your medical plan. Unlike a Health Savings Account (HSA), the HRA is not an actual bank account. It’s a fund of money available for use by your health plan when claims are processed.

What happens if I leave Pitney Bowes?

The HRA is only available to Pitney Bowes employees. If you leave the company, you cannot take your HRA funds with you. Any remaining funds will be forfeited.

When you visit a doctor or pick up a prescription at the pharmacy, your HRA funds are used to pay for your out-of-pocket costs. The funds in the account are automatically used as claims are processed.

Pitney Bowes funds the HRA every year and funds are available at the start of the new year (January 1).

How much money is available in the HRA?

As long as you’re enrolled in the Health Fund plan with HRA, Pitney Bowes deposits funds in your HRA every year. The amount deposited in your HRA as of January 1 is $500 for you-only coverage or $1,000 for all other coverage types.

New employees* that are hired throughout the year and enroll in the Health Fund plan with HRA will receive prorated funding to their HRA based on their hire date.

Prorated Funding Based on Hire Date You-only coverage All other coverage types
First Quarter (Jan-Mar) $500 $1,000
Second Quarter (Apr-Jun) $375 $750
Third Quarter (Jul-Sep) $250 $500
Fourth Quarter (Oct-Dec) $125 $250

*HRA is available to hourly employees only.

During the calendar year, if you earn rewards as part of the Wellness Perks program, the payout you earn get deposited to your HRA – helping your HRA dollars grow. You can earn up to $250 for you only-only or up to $500 for you and your covered spouse/partner when you participate in the program.

Presort Services/FDR employees will receive cash in their paycheck as taxable income.

HRA dollars roll over from year to year so if you stay enrolled in the Health Fund plan next year and didn’t use your HRA funds, they will carry over to the next year.

You can check your balance by logging on to your plan’s site at either myCigna.com or myUHC.com. The following shows how to check your balance using the myCigna mobile app.
